Palmistry - ©Astral Aspects

When reading your own palm, it is important to consider both hands in turn.

Right-handed people
Your right hand describes the events in your life while your left hand denotes the things you wish for in your life.

Left-handed people
Your left hand describes the events in your life while your right hand denotes the things you wish for in your life.

THE FINGERS
The Jupiter Finger
This is the index finger and shows how much pride you have, and the strength of your need for power. In a normal hand the Jupiter Finger generally reaches the middle of the top phalange of the Saturn Finger ['4' in the diagram].
A shorter than normal Jupiter Finger: you prefer to follow rather than lead. You are shy, reserved and lacking in self-esteem. You may shrink from challenges and responsibility.
A longer than normal Jupiter finger: you are proud and ambitious - maybe even arrogant - and you have a strong desire for power.
A significant gap between the Jupiter and Saturn Fingers: You are a good manager and are able to take decisions and use your initiative. you may be self-employed.
The Jupiter Finger juts out away from the Saturn Finger: You can be a bit of an exhibitionist and your like to be the centre of attention.
The Jupiter Finger curves towards the Saturn Finger: You are acquisitive and somewhat cautious when dealing with others.
A straight Jupiter Finger: You have keen powers of observation - both figuratively and literally - people with straight Jupiter Fingers rarely need to wear glasses!
Wearing a ring on the Jupiter Finger: You want to boost your confidence. You want to appear powerful, although you may feel the opposite.

The Saturn Finger
This is the middle finger and it indicates your general character and your sense of responsibility ['3' in the diagram]. In a normal hand the Saturn Finger measures about three-quarters the length of the palm.
A normal length Saturn Finger: You have a balanced nature and are able to shoulder your fair share of responsibility without feeling cowed or becoming careless.
A shorter than normal Saturn Finger: You make impulsive decisions and tend to avoid taking responsibility.
A very short Saturn Finger: You may be unable to make commitments that involve marriage, owning property and the like.
A longer than normal Saturn Finger: You have a strong character, are reliable and dependable, and you take life seriously. Successful business people, particularly those who handle other people's money, generally have long Saturn Fingers.
A longer than normal Saturn Finger which is also chunky: You tend to make heavy weather of life and may suffer from depression at times.
A significant gap between the Saturn and Jupiter Fingers: You are a good manager and are able to take decisions and use your initiative. you may be self-employed.
The Saturn Finger leans towards the Jupiter (index) Finger: You are an extrovert and you enjoy spending most of your time with other people.
The Saturn Finger leans towards the Apollo (ring) Finger: You are an introvert and tend to need plenty of time to yourself.
A straight Saturn Finger: You can balance your need to be sociable with your need to be alone.
Wearing a ring on the Saturn Finger: You want to boost your sense of security. You may have a troubled family background, an important relationship may have ended or your life may be going through changes.

The Apollo Finger
This is the ring finger and is associated with artistic and creative talents ['2' in the diagram]. It is also connected with the emotions and with the often unconscious way in which we communicate with others.
Apollo finger is shorter than the Jupiter and Saturn fingers (this is normally the case): you are emotionally well balanced.
Longer than normal Apollo Finger: you experience powerful emotions and have no trouble in expressing them. You possibly have a very strong sex drive. You are creative and good at communicating with others, finding it easy to express your ideas and opinions.
Shorter than normal Apollo Finger: You possibly have trouble in adjusting to other people's emotional demands, and may find it hard to express your own emotions. You tend to lack energy and may not be overly creative.
Apollo (ring) and Saturn (middle) Fingers bend towards each other: You have a tendency to sacrifice pleasure for duty. You may have had to put your creative desires second to the need to make money, or perhaps you spend a lot of your time looking after loved ones and have little time or energy left for yourself.
Wearing several rings or a very striking ring on the Apollo Finger (ignore a wedding ring unless you have never been married or are wearing more than one): You may be trying to compensate for lack of creativity or love in your life.

The Mercury Finger
This is the little finger and it rules communication, so the longer it is, the better you are able to communicate with others ['1' in the diagram]. In a normal hand the Mercury Finger reaches the joint of the top phalange on the Apollo Finger.
A shorter than normal Mercury Finger: You have problems communicating. You may behave in a childlike or immature way at times. You may find it difficult to form close emotional relationships.
A longer than normal Mercury Finger: You communicate well and you have considerable intelligence. You are sociable and get on well with others. You may also be lively and talkative.
A significant gap between the Mercury and Apollo (ring) Fingers when the fingers are closed: You find it difficult to communicate with others on an emotional level. Even if your Mercury finger is long (indicating that you are lively and chatty), you will find it hard to draw closer to others.
The Mercury Finger appears to be separate from the rest of the hand: You are unconventional, original and independent. You may find it difficult to reveal some aspects of your life to other people.
The Mercury Finger leans towards the Apollo (ring) Finger: You are shrewd, astute and possibly successful in business.
A naturally curved Mercury Finger (ignore a finger twisted through accident or arthritis): You sometimes don't mind bending the truth when it suits you.
A straight Mercury Finger: You are very honest.
Wearing a ring on the Mercury Finger: You desire sexual independence.

THE MOUNTS
The Mount of Venus
The Mount of Venus sits at the base of the thumb and is particularly noticeable. It indicates your level of vitality, sensuality and appreciation of beauty.
A high, elastic and well develop Mount of Venus: You are outgoing and have a strong sex drive, with plenty of physical energy. You probably have artistic talent and may even make a career in the arts. Fi your Mount of Venus is also extremely large, then these tendencies are proportionately magnified.
An under-developed or flabby Mount of Venus: You tend to lack vitality and may suffer from poor health. You sex drive at times may be low and you may also have difficulty expressing emotions in some situations.

The Mount of Luna
This Mount is found at the outer edge of the hand, below the Mount of Mars and just above the wrist ['11' in the diagram].
A very plump Mount of Luna: You are dreamy and idealistic, and tend to live in a little world of your own. You may have a tenuous grasp of reality, which could lead to half-truths.
A well-developed Mount of Luna: You are imaginative, artistic and cultured. You may experience ESP.
A flat, almost non-existent Mount of Luna: You are very realistic in your thoughts.

The Mount of Mars
There are two Mounts of Mars ['10' in the diagram]. The one below the Mount of Mercury denotes your moral courage. The one below the Mount of Jupiter indicates your physical courage.
The Mount of Mars below the Mount of Mercury
» Well-developed: you have spiritual strength, willpower and the ability to follow your beliefs in the face of opposition.
» Over-developed: You tend to doggedly and blindly persist in your beliefs, as if you are on a mission to prove something. This can end in disaster and disappointment.

The Mount of Mars below the Mount of Jupiter
» Well-developed: You are brave and fearless. You may be prepared to fight physically for what you believe in - many people in the armed forces have this Mount.
» Very large: You can be dogmatic, foolhardy and impulsive, rushing in where angels fear to tread.
» Very small or non-existent: You tend to lack physical courage.

The Mount of Jupiter
This Mount is found at the base of the index finger ['9' in the diagram]. You may have to cup your hand to see it.
A well-shaped Mount of Jupiter: You are ambitious and desire success. However if the Mount is over-large these desires are taken to extremes.
A well-shaped Mount of Jupiter coupled with a strong Life Line: Your ambitions will be realised.
A well-shaped Mount of Jupiter coupled with a weak Life Line: You may never achieve your ambitions and yet you will feel proud and satisfied.
An over-developed Mount of Jupiter, coupled with a large Mount of Mars beneath it: You may sometimes come across as a bit of a bully.
A small Mount of Jupiter: You may lack self-confidence.

The Mount of Saturn
This Mount is found at the base of the middle finger. You may need to cup your hand to see it. Sometimes this Mount appears between the middle and index fingers, in which case you need to read about both the Mount of Saturn and the Mount of Jupiter.
A non-existent Mount of Saturn: You tend to take a frivolous view of life.
Mount of Saturn is merged with the Mount of Jupiter (between middle and index fingers): You have a practical nature which is blended with a certain amount of ambition.
Mount of Saturn is merged with the Mount of Apollo (between middle and ring fingers): You have a practical nature which is blended with a certain amount of artistic talent.
A very pronounced Mount of Saturn: You are very studious and serious. You may even be a little bit pessimistic or fatalistic.
A well-shaped Mount of Saturn: You enjoy solitude and are a hard worker.

The Mount of Apollo
This Mount, at the base of the ring finger is an excellent one to have ['7' in the diagram]. You may have to cup your hand to see it.
Well shaped Mount of Apollo: You have creative talents and a love of beauty. You are generous and expansive.
A very large Mount of Apollo: You enjoy being in the limelight and may even be a bit of a show-off.
A small or non-existent Mount of Apollo: You have little artistic ability.

The Mount of Mercury
Sitting below the little finger, the Mount of Mercury ['6' in the diagram] is always considered in relation to the rest of the hand (especially the Head Line), because it amplifies existing tendencies.
If the rest of the hand is positive with a long and clearly marked Head Line: You are quick-thinking, lively and witty.
If the rest of the hand is negative with a weak or badly marked Head Line: You can be rather sarcastic. Your quick wits can lead to sharp practice or crime, lack of concentration and an over-excitable nature.

THE PHALANGES
The Logic
The Logic is the lower phalange of the thumb ['14' in the diagram]. As the name suggests it denotes your logic! The top phalange of the thumb denotes your will.
Logic longer than Will: You are logical and you reason things out before you take action.
Exceptionally long Logic: You probably do a lot of thinking but rarely take any action at all.
Logic thinner in the middle (it has a 'waist'): You tend to use tact and diplomacy when trying to get your own way.
The waist of the Logic is very pronounced: You tend to be logical to a fault, are easily influenced by other people's arguments and may endlessly analyse your own actions.

The Will
The Will is the top phalange of the thumb ['15' in the diagram]. As the name suggests it denotes your will! The lower phalange of the thumb denotes your logic.
The Will longer than Logic: Your head rules your heart - you're impulsive and want to get your own way, no matter what. If the Will is also bulbous broad, you may resort to force to get what you want.
The Will is flat and thin when viewed from the side: You are highly strung and sensitive.
The Will is rounded and fleshy when viewed from the side: You can be blunt and uncomfortably forthright at times.
The Will is abnormally large when viewed from the side: You can sometimes be obstinate and forceful.

The Percussion
This is the term given to the shape of the outer side of the palm ['5' in the diagram], and it is visible whether the fingers are open or closed.
The Percussion is curved: You are artistic. You may use your own talents or simply appreciate others' creative gifts.
The Percussion is straight: You don't have artistic talents, and are probably extremely practical instead.

The Top Phalanges
The fingers are divided into three sections: the Phalanges. The Top Phalanges are the final section of the finger tips.
Droplets or raised pads of flesh on the Top Phalanges: You have artistic talent and a strong sensitivity towards your surroundings. You feel things very deeply and may even be psychic.
Firm fingertips: You are good at business and don't like being told what to do. You have a no-nonsense approach to life.
Long nails: You are a bit of a dreamer. You are artistic and imaginative. You may shy away from unpleasant facts.
Short nails: You tend to be sceptical, logical and critical of others and you have a short temper.
Broader than long nails: You can be argumentative and you worry a lot. You are easily offended.
Very narrow nails: You can be narrow-minded and dogmatic at times.
Bitten nails: You are highly strung and nervy.
Manicured nails: You obviously set great store by your appearance.
White flecks on the nails: These indicate shocks to your nervous system - the area of life ruled by the finger in question will tell you what these shocks entailed.
Visible half-moons at the base of the nails: You breathe properly (most people take shallow breaths) and you take lots of exercise.
Very large half-moons: May indicate heart trouble - best to get things checked out.
Invisible half-moons: You have problems breathing and are not that keen on exercise.

The Middle Phalanges
The fingers are divided into three sections: the Phalanges. The Middle Phalanges are the sections between the main finger joints and finger tips, they indicate how your mind works. When considering the Middle Phalanges, ignore any bumps or deformed joints caused by arthritis, accidents or bone complaints.
Smooth fingers and no noticeable bumps at the joints: You tend to rely on your instincts when making decisions. You tend to jump to conclusions, which may or may not be accurate, without reasoning things out. Longer fingers help to offset this. Shorter fingers mean you are particularly impulsive, especially if you also have a weak Head Line.
Knotty joints: You are philosophical and enjoy puzzling out the whys and wherefores of meaty problems. You reason and analyse, and you always pay close attention to detail.

The Base Phalanges
The fingers are divided into three sections: the Phalanges. The Base Phalanges are the sections between the knuckles and finger joints.
Puffy and fleshy Base Phalanges: You are sensual and enjoy material comforts and luxuries. You may be acquisitive or materialistic and not overly generous at times.
Thin Base Phalanges: You are intellectual and may even seem slightly detached from everyday worries, with your mind dwelling on matters you find more important.
Notable gaps present between the bases of each finger: You are very generous and may spend virtually every penny you earn.

THE LINES
The Fate Line
Also called the Line of Saturn, the Fate Line runs up the palm from the hand to the Saturn Finger, between the index and ring fingers ['Z' in the diagram]. This line denotes your career, success or failure and the people who influence your life - for good or evil.
» Fate Line starts on the Mount of Luna: you were independent and knew what you wanted to do in life from an early age - and you are probably involved in something that uses your creative ability. You may even feature in the public eye.
» Fate Line starts at the wrist in the middle of your hand: you knew what you wanted to achieve from an early age.
» Fate Line starts within the Life line, on the Mount of Venus: you tend to do what your family expects of you. You possibly felt duty-bound to go into a family business or follow a career your parents chose for you.
» Lack of, or a faint feathery, Fate Line: You dislike routine and don't plan much in your life, preferring to let things take their course. You may fritter your energies on projects that don't really amount to much
» A strong Fate Line: You are reliable and like a regular routine. You have a certain amount of drive and ambition. You are able (either consciously or subconsciously) to steer your life in roughly the direction you want it to go.
» A broken Fate Line: You will have several changes of direction in your life.
» Small lines crossing the Fate Line: These indicate obstacles or interruptions in your career.
» Fate Line on your your writing hand but not on the other hand: You tend to direct a lot of conscious effort into achieving your desires.
» A Fate Line on your non-writing hand but not on your writing hand: You probably have wonderful dreams of success which you never really put into action.

The Heart Line
This line begins under the Mount of Mercury and ends somewhere between the Mounts of Jupiter and Saturn ['Y' in the diagram]. This line denotes the emotional and physical state of your heart. The Heart Line is usually one of the easiest lines to read.
» A strong Heart Line, with few breaks or interruptions: Take heart! Your heart is in a good physical condition. However, you may be very wrapped up in yourself and can tend to be a little selfish at times.
» A faint Heart Line: You have little empathy with others and you may suffer with a physical heart condition. Best to get things checked out.
» Heart Line which includes some chain-links: Your emotional energies tend to go round in circles which never result to much. You may have experienced a string of broken relationships because you tend to fritter away your emotions and may be reluctant to commit yourself to one person.
» A straight Heart Line: At times you can be a little insensitive to others and very direct at expressing your emotional needs.
» Combined Heart and Head Lines: This is known as a Simian line and is fairly rare. Your emotions and powers of reasoning are completely intertwined. You tend to wholeheartedly throw yourself into experiences, sometimes with rather unfortunate results. Because you often cannot take an objective view of your actions, everything is approached with intensity.
» Combined Heart, Head and Life Lines: This is very rare, where these three lines are joined together on the Mount of Mars near the thumb. You can be emotionally ruthless and will sometimes stop at nothing to get what you want from others, as your thoughts, emotions and actions all spring from the same source.
» Abnormally long Heart Line: You are ruled by your emotions, feel things passionately and are prone to jealousy.

The Head Line
This is the line that usually sits between the Heart and Life lines ['X' in the diagram]. It rises on or near the Life Line and runs across the Plain of Mars, before ending at a point somewhere under the Mercury (little) finger. This line indicates the quality of your intellect and reasoning ability.
» A short Head Line: Your reactions are much quicker than usual and you may, at times, make hasty judgements.
» A very short (ending in the middle of the palm) or faint Head Line: You are not very mentally adept and may have difficulty in marshalling your thoughts into any sort of order. You may be easily swayed by others.
» A longer than usual Head Line: You are often lost in thought - you tend to take in so many impressions of the world around you that you need plenty of time to process them all. However, this does mean that you are able to see both sides of an argument.
» A strong, well-defined Head Line: You are mentally very alert and quick. Your common sense knows no bounds - you may, however, be regarded as too rational at times.
» A direct, straight Head Line: You tend to have fixed ideas and a well-balanced mind with a practical. common-sense approach to life. You are always very matter-of-fact and take an objective viewpoint. However, your imagination is a little lacking, so you tend to see life in extremely black and white terms.
» A chained or feathered Head Line: You find it hard to concentrate and think clearly. Islands on the line indicate periods of mental strain.
» A Head Line which ends in a fork: This is often known as the 'writer's fork' - and indicates a born writer. If the fork is pronounced, with one end dipping towards the Mount of Luna (at the start of the wrist), it shows you have the ability to combine practicality with your imagination.

The Life Line
This line usually begins between the thumb and Jupiter (index) finger on the edge of the palm and curves around the Mount of Venus ['W' in the diagram]. It shows the pattern of your life and your strength, health and vitality. Landmarks of life - such as accidents, illnesses and changes of circumstance appear on the Life Line.
» A strong pink Life Line: you enjoy good health and will probably live to a ripe old age. You have plenty of physical energy and stamina.
» A pale faint Life Line: you do not have a great deal of vitality and may suffer through ill health at some point in your life. You may also be highly strung and nervous.
» Your Life Line is curved, sweeps around the Mount of Venus and ends at the wrist: you are very energetic with a natural zest for life. You are warm-hearted, good at communicating with others and are able to survive whatever life throws at you.
» Your Life Line has a very slight curve: you may find it difficult to relate to others emotionally. You can be inhibited, shy and introverted.
» Your Life Line is straight and cuts through the Mount of Venus: at times you can be rather selfish and a little mean-spirited.
» Combined Life and Head Lines: You tend to lack confidence and find decision-making difficult because you are heavily influenced by family ties. The longer the distance for which these two lines are fused together, the more pronounced this tendency is, because the longer the family influence will be. If the two lines quickly move apart, however, you will have established your independence at a young age.
» Combined Life, Head and Heart Lines: This is very rare, where these three lines are joined together on the Mount of Mars near the thumb. You can be emotionally ruthless and will sometimes stop at nothing to get what you want from others, as your thoughts, emotions and actions all spring from the same source.

The Girdle of Venus
Not to be confused with a double Heart Line, the Girdle of Venus ['V' in the diagram] is a curved line that sits high on the palm, above the Heart Line. It normally runs from the Jupiter (index) or Saturn (middle) finger to the Apollo (ring) or Mercury (little) finger. Do not be alarmed if you do not have this Line on your palm - many people don't!
This line indicates a passionate nature. This may be expressed as sexual passion or possibly devotion to a particular interest or vocation. It indicates heightened emotions, especially if the line is strong and deep, and it also denotes sensitivity.

The Plain of Mars
The Plain of Mars sits at the centre of the palm, surrounded by the Mounts ['13' in the diagram]. The best way to examine it is to gently massage it with the ball of your thumb.
» The skin is soft and you can feel bones and ligaments through the skin: You tend to lack self-confidence.
» The skin is firm and elastic: You have plenty of confidence and may even be rather bumptious at times.
» The skin is coarse and the Plain of Mars is very full: You enjoy the sound of your own voice and can appear insensitive to others' feelings.
