Buddha Russian Matryoshka Nesting Dolls
A Matryoshka doll, also called a Russian Nesting Doll, refers to a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside the other. A set of Matryoshkas consist of a wooden figure which separates, top from bottom, to reveal a smaller figure of the same sort inside, which has in turn another figure inside of it, and so on. The number of nested figures is traditionally at least five. Often, but not always, the innermost smallest doll is made from a single small piece of wood and is therefore non-opening. The dolls are often designed to a theme. Apart from the traditional Russian peasant girls, the themes vary from fairytale and mythical characters to animals and religious themes.
Set of 5 wooden nesting dolls painted with images of Buddha. Overall 14.5cm high x 5.5cm diameter; weighs 164 grams. If the dolls are stiff to open initially, just season the joins with a drop of oil. If this is to be given to a small child, adult supervision is recommended.
