OCTOBER BIRTHSTONES

October is the tenth month of the year in the Julian calendar and the eighth month of the Roman calendar. October retained its name (from the Latin Octo meaning eight) after January and February were inserted into the calendar created by the Romans.

In the neopagan Wheel of the Year, 31st October is the festival of Samhain - the Celtic New Year - when the veil between the worlds of life and death stands open. Samhain is a festival of the dead, when we remember those who have gone before and acknowledge the mystery of death.
